[Smells Like News] Rihannaâs Emotional âRated Râ Inspiration

From struggles can come strength - and that is exactly what Rihanna has put into her new album, Rated R. The singer went deep into her feelings and used her emotions to help her with her music.

“I’m usually a very guarded person, so having to go in and reach your emotions and personal things to say, it was very vulnerable,” the Barbadian beauty, 21, told People magazine at Monday night’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards in New York City.

Rihanna described the album that will be released on November 23 as “personal experiences mixed with rock and hip-hop.”

Since February, when the assault incident with Chris Brown happened, Rihanna has had difficult times and had to deal with court proceedings as well as criticism for taking him back. Brown pleaded guilty to the charges after pictures were leaked of her bruised and battered face. After leaving him, she told that he had shoved her into a car window, proceeding to punch her face several times and bit her.

Now facing the life as a victim of domestic violence, Rihanna knew it was her responsibility to speak out to women who are going through the same thing.

“I’m really a woman, a human being. I go through real situations that women all over the world go through every day. It’s great to have the opportunity to be a voice for those women.”

Rihanna had the honor of accepting the “Back On Top” Women of the Year award on Monday that was given by model Iman and she entered with a tear, only then claiming it was PMS and happily continued to thank friends, Jay-Z and her mother and grandmother.

With a smile on her face, she joked, “As usual, I decided do the tightest dress I could find,” she said to appreciative laughter.
